Bone-dry hair that thirsts for moisture is a problem for any hair texture. However, it especially can be a problem for those with natural curl and more thick weight to the hair due to lower porosity than other hair textures. This diy hair mask for curly hair helps feed it the nutrients it needs to restore missing softness and luster.
Having thick hair that has natural curl to it, I can tell you that dryness not only dulls, weakens the strands while giving it a horrible feel, but it also compounds the issues with frizziness and unruliness. My diy hair mask for curly hair helps in this never-ending battle for healthy hair.
I use avocado since it is loaded with fatty amino acids, antioxidants and minerals for how well it can repair, hydrate and protect the hair. Its B and E vitamins alone can even help strengthen hair at the cellular level and grow.
Another ingredient that makes this recipe so fantastic is coconut oil, which is rich in vitamins K and E. Coconut oil can help invigorate hair follicles to help with hair growth while strengthening them, keep the scalp healthy and add superb moisture and shine.
Being a humectant, I added some honey to help the hair retain moisture and for healthier growth since it plays a role in strengthening hair follicles.
Aloe Vera Gel has unique proteolytic enzymes that digest protein from dead cells clogging follicles for a healthier scalp and hair growth.
Lavender essential oil is such a relaxing smell that works hard for hair health as well as stress offering aromatherapy benefits. This essential oil has antimicrobial properties for healing scalp and any dry skin issues.
Together these ingredients help you rediscover the former glory of the curls that you had! I hope that you try my hair mask recipe because it can make a believer out of you of what is possible using what is in your pantry and kitchen.
My DIY Curly Hair Strengthening Mask
1 ripe avocado, pitted, peeled and mashed
3 tablespoons of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of honey
1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
3 drops of lavender essential oil
Place the mashed avocado, coconut oil, honey, aloe vera gel, and lavender essential oil and combine thoroughly in a mixing bowl.
Massage the mix into your hair and apply evenly.
Cover the hair with a shower cap or some plastic wrap before wrapping a towel turban over it. Keep the mask on for about thirty minutes. You can keep it on longer for maximum benefits if your hair is extremely coarse and damaged.
After your time is up, rinse the mixture out and wash your hair as you normally would.
