If you’re tired of navigating through a disorganized laundry room and wish that your space could be in better shape, then I want to share some helpful ideas on laundry room organization. Once you follow these tips, you will save time hunting for supplies as well as stress from the chaos of being surrounded by too much clutter.
Some laundry rooms are too small without enough space except for a washing machine and dryer. Parking your laundry detergent, bleach, a fabric softener, etc. on the floor near the washing machine only reduces your walking room. Therefore, aim to utilize unused space higher up in the room by building a shelf or two at eye level for easy access. This change will get rid of an eye sore as well as make a difference for reaching the products for better laundry room organization.
You might want to save room on a shelf or somewhere else for a small container for all the things like money or loose buttons that you find when emptying pockets or inspecting items before laundering. A small trash container is also great to keep parked nearby for any forgotten tissues that are found during the search. Keeping track of these unnoticed things in these two ways saves frustration and improves laundry room efficiency.
Strategic Storage Helps Work Flow and Laundry Room Organization
Keep a pair of scissors on the shelf or attached from a hook on one of the shelves is useful. I like to keep a pair there just for snipping off price tags, labels and any loose threads, etc. before laundering. Once those new tags are cut what else I do is save them and all the other instructions to pin on a pegboard bulletin board for later reference. Knowing where I stuck the instructions saves from laundry mistakes such as possibly shrinking a special care item etc. without the need of juggling through stuff that I might misplace.
Despite a small laundry room, it also helps to plan ahead for eventual replacement of items that you may want to replace. Keeping a box or plastic bag in a hidden spot for items that you want to donate to charity or to start gathering up for your next trip to sell them at the flea market can help your laundry room run more efficiently. Paring some items down will keep your space tidier and help another person or yourself benefit.
Lately, I have been losing fewer socks than in past now that I use a smaller net-like, mesh laundry bag to launder them together in. Of course, you can pin pairs together and wash them that way. The only problem with that is that pins can open to snag other items or scratch your machine.
Something else that helps keep your laundry room that much more pleasant to work in is dusting off the washer, dryer, hot water heater, and shelves once you finish. Think of all the lint that comes out of your dryer’s lint tray, regardless of how well you clean it out. Taking this extra step will keep this tiny bit of extra lint dust from the floor and not to mention avoiding irritation to your eyes.
Hangers in the laundry room are vital once clothes come out of the dryer. Place a few hooks in the wall or depending where you have your shelves, and you may be able to attach a few hooks from the last shelf. I like to keep a stack of wire hangers on one, wooden hangers on another to pants hangers, etc.
Turning to a few simple laundry room organization tricks can tidy up your area while making your workplace more efficient.
My washer and dryer are in the basement as many in our area are. It seems like a good place, until you lug laundry up and down stairs! I do have a place to hang clothes short term. I would suggest if you have a laundry in the basement to run a dehumidifier. It really does help!
We are in the process of remodeling our home and the laundry room is on the list. It is a small room but I am up for the task. I am going to paint and organize so everything has a place!

Believe me, it helps doing laundry easier.
My husband built shelves for me above the washing machine so that I could place all my laundry items there.
Washing and dryer areas have come a long way. WAY back when they were placed in the basement and you had to carry that laundry basket down and up the steep steps. One home my sister had the laundry room was on the second floor it was a big room. You need to make them easy to use and organized and this is a lot of good information.
