Red meat is something that I don’t serve that often. We do eat a lot of poultry, ground turkey, fish, and meat alternatives such as beans when cooking. Beans are not only healthier if you are watching your cholesterol, but they contribute a lot of fiber to keep your digestive tract up to speed. Cooking with beans also will save you money, especially if you use dry beans over canned beans. For your convenience, I included both forms of how to make my black bean patties recipe, depending on your choice of canned or dry beans.
A delicious main dish is what you can do with them such as my patties. They are puffy gently seasoned cakes further enhanced with finely chopped onion and celery before frying in olive oil and later topping with spaghetti or pizza sauce, cheese and a dollop of sour cream. I use the Volcanic Peppers Spicy Ponzu Sauce that is an artisan hot sauce that has a soy steak sauce taste to its milder heat. To supplement the bean, eggs and oat protein in my recipe, I always tend to include a side dish of rice to make the meal a complete protein.

These patties are packed with healthier nutrition such as molybdenum, copper, manganese, vitamin B1, phosphorus, protein, magnesium, and iron. They also are lower in calories and don’t make you feel heavy in stomach in the same way as other meats.
Making these black bean patties can be made ahead and stored in your refrigerator after you finish shaping and frying them. All that is left for you to do is reheat them in your microwave later for dinner.
If you are using dry black beans, make sure to check for any small pebbles before rinsing and soaking. Get one of your large pot lids and use them to pour some out at a time is the easiest way to check. This will save you from missing it and possibly breaking a tooth.
Also, when you are cooking with dry black beans, I found that you need to soak them longer than other forms of dry beans.
Another tasty recipe for black beans in a patty form is my Black Bean Cakes recipe. This one has a different spice base with more of an Italian influence and uses bread crumbs along with vegetables in a tomato sauce that is excellent.

Black Bean Patties
4 cups of cooked, dried black beans or 3 cans (16 oz. of canned black beans, rinsed and drained)
1-1/2 cups uncooked oats
1 small onion, finely diced
1 tablespoon of Volcanic Peppers Spicy Ponzu Sauce or 1 tablespoon of soy sauce or steak sauce
1 cup of finely chopped celery
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon of salt
1/4 cup of flour
1/4 cup of cornmeal
olive oil to fry
spaghetti or pizza sauce (about 3 tablespoon for each patty)
1 slice of American cheese for each patty
grated Cheddar cheese (about a tablespoon for each patty)
Coarsely mash your cooked or drained canned beans with a fork before combining everything but the flour, cornmeal, and oil.
Shape into eight patties. Dredge each in the flour and cornmeal before cooking in enough olive oil to fry (about five minutes each side) until lightly browned. Finish cooking too further heat through or refrigerate to later reheat in the microwave.
Top with spaghetti or pizza sauce, then add a slice American cheese and a sprinkling of Cheddar cheese to melt over top.
Finish each patty with a dollop of sour cream.
ENJOY!

I would enjoy these. They look and sound good to me. The reat of the family would have to be ‘fooled’ as they do enjoy red meat. I agree though beans are a great replacement and one that tastes great too.
This is one that I will be making! Of course I will be using can beans 🙂 I make a lot of salmon, potato and tuna cakes so beans will be added. I have found once I get everything mix and patty I place the cakes in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 minutes. Doing this makes the cake stay together for me.
This sounds healthy looking good
I don’t eat much red meat either. I think I would really enjoy these!
These sound delicious! I’m looking at ways to eat healthier, so I’ll have to try this!
I rarely eat red meat also. This looks delicious and I will have to give it a try 🙂
We also try not to eat too much red meat . This recipe sounds awesome . We also try and cook a dinner at least once a weak that is meat free and this would be great . I’ve never heard of this recipe before but it sounds amazing .

No joke, these patties are out-of-this-world DELICIOUS. I make a big batch and then also reheat in the microwave for my lunch. In fact, this was my lunch this week. I open a jar of spaghetti sauce, grate more Cheddar and a slice of American and then pop it in a few minutes to reheat. I always finish by topping with a bit of sour cream, which takes that fantastic taste over the top. It really is so much tastier than something like a sandwich, especially in the winter when you need something hot. This way you also eat a bigger meal earlier in the day to help burn more calories and eat less for dinner. Making this also helps you feel fuller. You won’t snack as much.
Lots of good recipes here but this is the one I have made several times love it!!
