Besides daily moisturizing and weekly exfoliation, I never neglected the importance of turning to facial masks for intensifying overall skin beauty. Though you can buy many wonderful ones, I found that your kitchen often has just what you need. If you want a healthier glow and a better nourished complexion with anti-aging benefits, you got to try my skin care treatment with this DIY superfood facial.
As you know, I have quite a few DIY beauty recipes and homemade facial masks that I’ve shared with you such as my DIY hydrating face and complexion revival masks among them. Ever since I whipped this latest one up, I’ve used it a few times since it has become one of my new favorites for the big difference it has made for my skin.
I used avocado because how rich it is with its omega-3 fatty acids and collagen-producing antioxidants like vitamin E, C and A for superior deep moisturizing and defending the skin from free radical damage. This superfood also has about 20 other valuable vitamins and minerals for the skin from folate, niacin, potassium, magnesium, lutein, etc. to contribute.
Unsweetened cocoa powder also is another excellent contributor for my homemade superfood facial treatment since it is a powerhouse of antioxidants, particularly flavonols and phenolic phytochemicals like red wine for keeping skin young and moist. Equally impressive are how these components not only can guard against environmental damage but repair the UV damaged cells. These also help combat inflammation.
Another amazing way cocoa is advantageous is by stimulating the skin through its theobromine. This helps to improve blood circulation for clearing old cells away and causing fresh cells the chance to emerge as well.
The banana also found its way into my homemade superfood facial treatment. The reason is for all its mighty antioxidants, including dopamine and catechins for locking in moisture and helping the skin maintain a youthful visage. It has the ability to plump up skin cells and promote its renewal.
Plain Greek yogurt with its moisturizing and skin brightening lactic acid, host of B vitamins and quality minerals also found its way into my new recipe. In the process, this ingredient can also gently exfoliate. However, I intensified that skin clarifying effect by incorporating some ground flaxseed meal into this DIY skin care treatment.
To top off these ingredients, I decided to incorporate some honey into it. Being a humectant as well as an antimicrobial, it supplemented moisture, dealt with inflammation and healed at the same time.
DIY Superfood Facial Treatment
½ small ripe banana, mashed
½ ripe avocado
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed meal
1 tablespoon of honey
Combine your mashed banana, avocado, cocoa powder, yogurt, honey, and ground flaxseed meal and mix together until well blended.
Apply a generous layer to your freshly washed face.
Leave this treatment on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing with tepid water. Be sure to close your pores with a few splashes of cool water.
Store any of this treatment left in a clean-covered container in your refrigerator for about two more times. This doesn’t keep too long so use this fairly quickly.
Your skin will thank you for it!
This sounds very interesting but I will have to pick up 2 items Cocoa & Flaxseed to make it. The other items I usually have around.
This sounds great for skin. Thank you so much for the recipe!
I am willing to give this a try. I feel that there are so many products out there that really are not helpful, and I am leery of some of the ingredients in some of them. Thank you for sharing a natural treatment plan.
This sounds great. I love trying diy beauty concoctions and love to watch youtube videos on this subject.
