For those times when your stomach is acting up whether it’s bloating, nausea, indigestion, gas, or the effects of some sudden virus with pain, diarrhea to vomiting, you just want it to go away as quickly as possible. Therefore, it is always handy to know what to do when you need relief and these stomach ache remedies can be a place to start.
Suffering through diarrhea is no fun trying to run to the bathroom every few minutes. Though you need to eat and drink, you want to stick to the right types of foods and drink to put in that tummy so not to make the problem worse. When you first come down with that case of the runs, try avoiding solid foods for a few hours can help deal with your body is already processing. Nonetheless, you should keep hydrated with water, broths, tea, etc. to help clear the virus from your system.
By the next day of your diarrhea episode, you should turn to choices that are easier to digest such as crackers, toast, rice, bananas, and chicken to ease back into eating. At the same time, you should avoid foods that can irritate your already agitated stomach such as spicy foods, dairy products, coffee, fatty foods or ones with lots of fiber.
If you tend to have a nervous stomach that gives you butterflies every time you need to make a speech, presentation for your job or just doing a new task that you don’t feel ready for, another of these remedies to try is simply working on your breathing. Sometimes, you can find quick relief just by altering how you breathe turning to deep, slow breaths that can do wonders to calm stomach muscles.
Nausea is one of the worst feelings. The next time this happens or vomiting, having some ginger or ginger ale in the house is a good thing. Just make sure the brand has actual ginger listed among its ingredients because not all brands contain it. You don’t have to keep fresh ginger on hand because the rhizomes will still be effective in dry, crystallized, pickled, or powdered form. This is another of these remedies for an ailing stomach that have been around through history as a proven method to help with such gastrointestinal issues.
Constipation causes a lot of people stomach aches. If you are prone to constipation, then you may need to rethink your diet. Adding more fiber can be done naturally or through fiber powders such as Metamucil to help move things along. You may even want to rethink your breakfast choices by replacing a current cereal with one that has more fiber such as oatmeal or adding whole grains breads instead of plain toast.
Fiber is just one part of that equation for gut health. You might also not be drinking enough water to help your digestion with that food within. My doctor once said for every cup of coffee, tea or soda, it should be followed up with a cup of water to keep your system working as it should. Otherwise, your food hardens within the digestive track instead of being easier to work its way along those many feet of intestines.
Lack of exercise can also contribute to stomach aches like constipation or diarrhea. Taking a short daily walk or another physical activity that can help train those lazy muscles to better function are other stomach ache remedies.
No one like to have gas or be in the company of anyone that does. Therefore, here are some stomach ache remedies that you want to try such as peppermint tea, bismuth subsalicylate (ingredient in Pepto-Bismol) or even activated charcoal capsules.
The only problem with activated charcoal it will absorb the gas, but interfere with any medications that you are taking so check with your doctor first. Another problem about using it is that just like your other supplements, it is not regulated as it should be the government. I strongly advise to always check for some industry regulation seal on vitamins and supplements to avoid what happened to me.
Gut pain can also be caused by a food allergy or food sensitivity. You also might want to read my earlier post to recognize the difference.
