A cup of hot chocolate is always so comforting and a delicious way to warm up during winter. Instead of buying those packets of hot chocolate mix, this easy recipe is a tastier alternative that also can save you money in the process. My recipe also is more nutritious with extra protein (eight grams per cup) because of using nonfat dry powdered milk. Commercial cocoa mix packets typically contain about one gram of protein per packet and way too much sodium.
You won’t believe how simple making my hot cocoa blend mix is. This recipe uses just four ingredients or three if you eliminate the pinch of salt and makes enough to fill two 40-oz. jars and about a third of another.
Good storage containers are recycling plastic jars such as ones that originally contained peanut butter for saving mixes, repackaging pasta or cereal to store other small items. Besides being an efficient and thrifty green way to recycle and help the planet, I like them for their usefulness, sizes for fitting on my pantry shelves and visibility for easy access.

When you feel the need too cozy up with your blanket and read or watch television, I think you’ll enjoy sipping on my hot chocolate mix. You also may want to try another hot cocoa mix that I make that is also very good, but is slightly different.
Hot Chocolate Mix
4 cups of nonfat dry powdered milk
3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ cups of sugar
1/8 teaspoon of salt
All needed is to combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix thoroughly.
Store in a covered closed jar in a cool, dry place.
Place three tablespoons of the chocolate mix per cup before adding boiling water. Stir until the mix is dissolved.
You can also drop in some mini marshmallows or whipped cream, if desired.
ENJOY!
