Tips for the Best Cheddar Pear Pie

I didn’t use a colander to drain the pears because I wanted to save the liquid it was packed in. Instead, I just scooped them out with a fork. The reason I did this was because that light syrup is great to add when making ice tea or lemonade to give the drink a fruity twist. Therefore, you may have some liquid left after cutting the pears into small pieces. This is no problem. Just add it to the cut pears for the pie.

Use my oil pie crust recipe for this pear pie because it is foolproof and works perfectly to fit a 10-inch single pie shell or a 9-inch. Olive oil is the best oil for it, but canola oil works wonderfully.

You can use canned pears that are also packed in 100% pear juice, the light syrup or the heavy syrup. I usually buy the ones packed in 100% pear juice, but I bought some in light syrup when they were on sale.

If you never tried canned pear pie with cheese, you are missing something special in what the cheese does to enhance the pear flavor. However, with my version of this Cheddar pear recipe you don’t have to wait for the pear season to savor that delectable pie anytime. Please do share this canned pear pie recipe with family and friends and do come back to my blog for more.
